PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.
The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.
The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.
Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.
Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
